Temporary closures at Macquarie Park stations as Metro prepares to expand

Commuters are encouraged to prepare and plan ahead as work to expand the Sydney Metro network mean temporary service closures are coming to Macquarie Park.

As the project gears up for an extensive phase of testing, Metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood will be replaced by buses over a six-week-span on weekends and selected weeknights.

Weeknight closures will be from 8.40pm to 2am on March 12 and 13, April 2, 3 and 4 and April 16, 17 and 18.

Weekend buses will operate from 2am on Saturdays until 2am on Mondays for each weekend from Saturday 16th March until the weekend of Saturday 18th May.

The imminent expansion of the Sydney Metro network - slated for mid-year 2024 -is a significant opportunity for Macquarie Park, Australia’s original innovation district.

New services will provide a significant reduction in commuting times, with passengers able to travel direct from Barangaroo to Macquarie Park in just 18 minutes, via new tunnels beneath Sydney harbour.

Extended Sydney Metro services will also significantly broaden the radius of a 30-minute commute to our innovation district - an opportunity for HR and Talent Attraction teams seeking to attract more workers to roles here.

In 2023 Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District members attended an industry briefing on what Metro means for Macquarie Park, including the launch of our recent report "Get Ready for More Metro." This report offers leading workplaces invaluable insights and data to help prepare them for the expansion.
