BaptistCare unveils significant plans for Macquarie Park, joins Connect MPID

One of the nation’s largest not-for-profit care providers, BaptistCare NSW & ACT (Balaclava Road) has unveiled an innovative long-term masterplan for its Macquarie Park site.

BaptistCare, who has been serving older people and people living with disadvantage for almost 80 years, has recently become the newest member of Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District.

BaptistCare’s long term vision for its 6.4ha Macquarie Park site is to create an intergenerational mixed use precinct, with a high priority placed on amenity, green open spaces, community, health and wellbeing.

The proposed masterplan includes seniors’ housing, student accommodation, build to rent and build to sell residential buildings, a school, retail, commercial and allied health.

The proposed plan will allow people to traverse into the surrounding district, including the neighbouring University campus, Sydney Metro and shopping at Macquarie Centre.

BaptistCare also say the proposed masterplan will bring sustainable growth to Macquarie Park and Ryde into the future, providing over 6,500 jobs over the next five to 20 years.

Charles Moore, CEO of BaptistCare NSW & ACT, said the organisation’s exciting plans for Macquarie Park show a significant commitment to the area:

“We believe mixed-use precincts can create a vibrant, community-oriented development that will support the aim of boosting Greater Sydney’s liveability, productivity, and sustainability, and enable BaptistCare to deliver much-needed care services”

“The proposal has been designed to…facilitate intergenerational living where older people, students, families and key workers can interact easily. This approach has been known to minimise stress and feelings of social isolation for both seniors and younger people, as well as encourage broader social connection, well-being and community.”

“It is also an opportunity for density to be done well…adding services and value, not just infrastructure, to a broad range of population groups and the local community.”

Charlotte Stratton, Chair at Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District welcomed BaptistCare as their newest member:

“BaptistCare joins our influential partnership of leading employers, landowners, government and a world-leading university, working together as a unified voice for Macquarie Park.”

“Macquarie Park is already a global centre for pharmaceuticals, health, MedTech industry and research, with 20,000 new jobs planned for the area over the coming years.”

“The Board and team at Connect MPID looks forward to working with BaptistCare and seeing the vision for its mixed use precinct and intergenerational community come to fruition in the coming years.”

Connect MPID is guided by a board of Directors comprised of local leaders from industry, academia plus State and local government.
