Connect MPID members get ready for more Metro in Macquarie Park at new report launch

Connect MPID members and special guests met at Transport for NSW’s Harvest Street headquarters for an exclusive new report launch today, “Get ready for more Metro, Macquarie Park!”

Connect MPID members enjoyed networking over lunch, followed by updates on how the rail service will expand in 2024 - and how to leverage this significant opportunity as a leading local employer.

Connect MPID Chair Charlotte Stratton welcomed attendees, speaking to the “really big story” that is Sydney Metro:

“This multi-billion-dollar Government investment represents the most significant opportunity in Macquarie Park for a generation”

“As our members, you work together to foster innovative workplaces, to create connections across our community, and to advance Macquarie Park as a world-leading innovation district”

Director of Customer and Products at Sydney Metro, Gaston Pena, shared a project update - including a glimpse Sydney Metro train testing in new tunnels deep beneath Sydney Harbour, which will connect Macquarie Park direct to the city for the first time.

Development manager at John Holland Group, Stanley Jia, shared an overview of “Macquarie Square”, a new neighbourhood in Macquarie Park masterplanned to create space for new jobs just steps from Sydney Metro services.

Senior Manager for Travel Demand Management at Transport for NSW, Dave Surplice, spruiked their Travel Choices program for workplaces, setting Sydney Metro within the context of other projects and service changes which could impact employers.

Officially launching Connect MPID’s new “Get ready for more Metro” report and employee engagement toolkit, General Manager Mark Ames hailed the moment of change:

“Our analysis of the new Sydney Metro service reveals how significantly Macquarie Park’s employment catchment area is about to increase,” he said.

“Expanding Sydney Metro will change the mental geography of Sydneysiders, bringing our innovation district much closer to the action in 2024.”

“Employers who aren’t preparing for more Metro as an exceptional opportunity to re-engage employees and grow, are going to miss the train.”

The new report examines:

  • What happened in Macquarie Park when Sydney Metro first opened in 2019

  • Macquarie Park’s new 30-minute employment catchment area coming in 2024

  • Strategies and tips to help leading workplaces get ready for more Metro

The invite-only industry briefing, report launch and employee engagement toolkit are another example of the many benefits that Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District members enjoy. Interested in your organisation joining our network? Let us know!
